Unity, The Foundation For Increase : Bishop Tony Samuels

How truly wonderful and delightful it is to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity. - Psalms 133:1 (TPT)

One of the most powerful things for Christians is to be in a place of unity. Without unity, there will be no increase. Before increase can come in any area of our lives, there must be unity. At the beginning of the Church age, there were 120 people who came together in a place called the Upper Room. Look at what the Bible says about the atmosphere of the Upper Room in Acts 2:1-2: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Notice, it says they were in one place, in unity; that unity created an environment for the Holy Spirit to move in a powerful way, and that was the birth of the Church age.

Matthew 18:19 says, Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven. This Scripture conveys what unity looks like, as well as God’s response to unity. It said if two shall agree; so to have unity you have to have agreement. Then it says we are to harmonize together; that means unity has a sound, that there is communication that creates unity. Then it says they asked for the same thing; so to have unity, you have to have the same vision. When God see us flowing in unity, then things we’ve been asking Him for will begin to come to pass in our lives, both individually and corporately.

The enemy knows the power of unity, so he will do everything in his power to create disunity. One of the ways he does this is by trying to create division among us. Matthew 12:25 says, And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.” The enemy’s objective is to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus said a house divided cannot stand, so if the enemy can divide us, it helps to accomplish his mission.

So what is division? Division is: the act of dividing or separating into parts, any entire body; the state of being divided; that which divides or separates; that which keeps apart; partition. You must understand how God sees us. Even though we are individuals, when He assigns us to the church, He sees us as one. In your marriage, He sees two people as one. That’s why divorce is one of the most painful things you can go through, because it is the process of dividing yourself.

Ephesians 4:3-4 says, …endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling. Even though we come from different backgrounds and places, it was one Voice that called us out, to bring us into the Body of Christ. We are connected in the Spirit, so we can’t let earthly things separate what God has joined in the Spirit.

I am praying that this year be a year of great unity among us. This will be accomplished if we use the glue of the Holy Spirit to keep us in the place of unity. Let’s see what that glue is in Colossians 3:14: Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in unselfish love, which is the perfect bond of unity for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others. Could it really be that simple? All we have to do to maintain unity is to love each other on purpose. Amazing! So let’s lay the foundation of unity in 2022 by loving each other unconditionally, and watch tremendous increase show up in our lives.

I love you, and be blessed!
