From Parrot To Partaker : Pastor Elliott Cook

Hallelujah, Glory to the Lamb of God, for His blood that covers us with a hedge of protection, so we can walk victorious, on fire for God, as we lift up the name of Jesus!!!! Amen!!!!

Some of us would be really excited and moved by that combination of powerful words and phrases, while others might feel left out from an elite group of people with a language that is exclusive to them alone. Some others might just be repeating those words out of a numb habit, because the purpose of the words has never been revealed or their meanings have been long forgotten.

Hallelujah, Glory to the Lamb of God, for His blood that covers us with a hedge of protection, so we can walk victorious, on fire for God, as we lift up the name of Jesus!!!! Amen!!!!

Yes, that statement is so powerful and true, but that reality can only bless and benefit those who understand what it actually means. Only with understanding of its meaning can those words help you to partake of the blessing it offers. Even a parrot can repeat words, but a parrot cannot partake of the divine nature of God… even if it says all the right words, at all the right times. Not just because a parrot is a bird, but more importantly because a parrot doesn’t understand and comprehend what it is saying. It just echoes what it hears.

I have been in church now for 9 years of my life and I’m now very fluent in “Christianese.” However, at one time, when I first became “born again,” I was confused and felt abducted and placed in a foreign land. Hallelujah, Glory, Fire of God, Amen, and in Jesus’ Name are all common jargon heard among church folk and often not understood. One common church term that is used, yet too often misunderstood, is the FEAR of GOD. WAIT…the FEAR of God…. I thought God is LOVE…. here we go again with more “confusing” Christianese. What does it all mean?

The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. - Proverbs 9:10 NKJV

This verse teaches us that the fear of God is foundational to true wisdom; all other types of learning are worthless unless built upon a knowledge of the Lord himself and His attributes. Fearing God is not being afraid of God, but being afraid of being without God. Those who fear the Lord have a continual awareness of Him, and a sincere commitment to obey His words.

When we incorporate the fear of the Lord into every moment of our lives, we make decisions based upon His approval, and that’s how we spread the Good News for all to see. That’s how we become the light in the darkness, the difference that brings transformation to those that need change. Living with the fear of God will propel you into a deeper relationship with Him, that will bring you blessings, provisions, and protection to your life.

A parrot is only a hearer, but a disciple is a doer. Body of Christ, let’s live a life that fears God, not by words alone, but with corresponding action by passionately doing what His words says.
