Making Room For The King : Pastor Tony Samuels
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:7 (KJV)
Can you believe that at the time of Jesus’ birth, there was no room for Him to be born at the Inn? There was no suitable place for His mother to go through the delivery process; because of this, His mother was forced to have Him in a manger. There was no one willing to give up their space or comfort to make room for the Kings of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Many times, the Lord comes at the most inconvenient times in our lives. I believe He does this to see if we are willing to give up our comfort zone to accommodate His Presence.
I would have loved to have had a room booked at the Inn that night. I could have traded places with the Lord, given up my comfort for His Glory. John 1:11-12 (KJV) says, He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name… His own people did not receive Him, but that does not stop the Lord from reaching out to humanity. He will keep knocking until someone accepts His invitation; and when you do, you receive power to become the sons of God.
Many people don’t make room for the King because they are so busy with the things of this life. Our schedules are so jam-packed, and we are so booked, there is no time for the King. Jesus still comes, but our unwillingness to make room shows the priority and condition of our hearts. Luke 9:59-62 (TPT) says, Jesus then turned to another and said, “Come be my disciple.” He replied, “Someday I will, Lord, but allow me first to fulfill my duty as a good son and wait until my father passes away.” Jesus told him, “Don’t wait for your father’s burial. Let those who are already dead wait for death. As for you, go and proclaim everywhere that God’s kingdom has arrived.” Still another said to him, “Lord, I want to follow you too. But first let me go home and say good-bye to my entire family.” Jesus responded, “Why do you keep looking back to your past and have second thoughts about following me? If you turn back you are not fit for God’s kingdom.” Notice, each person He approached said, “Let me first go…” We make room for what is first place in our lives. If Jesus is not first, we will probably have little room, if any, for Him.
Is He on our priority list? Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) tells us how our lives are supposed to be aligned: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. First signifies priority; first signifies importance; first signifies respect and honor. If we are not willing to give Him the first, we will never discover the true riches of life. Matthew 16:24-25 (TPT) says, Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If you truly want to follow me, you should at once completely reject and disown your own life. And you must be willing to share my cross and experience it as your own, as you continually surrender to my ways. For if you choose self-sacrifice and lose your lives for my glory, you will continually discover true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will forfeit what you try to keep. When we make room, He fills our lives with the true riches of His Presence, and we are satisfied. He takes us from striving to basking in His Glory.
Psalms 24:6-7 (KJV) says, This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Oh, yes, amen! Wise men still seek Him and make room for Him. So have a blessed Merry Christmas, and during this time of focusing on Jesus, the reason for the season, make room for Him. In your personal life, make room for Him… as a family, make room for Him… and the results will be peace and joy in your life.
Merry Christmas!
