Attitude Changes Circumstance : Pastor Calvin Williams

Many come into Christianity thinking all their problems will now be solved, and that life will be smooth sailing once they’ve given their lives to Jesus. This is just not so. Being a child of God does not exempt us from the storms of life. However, Jesus promises to see us through. He gives us grace to withstand every storm, but one thing we need to recognize is that our attitude will determine how we’re coming out of it.

The storms of life can be a swift teacher. They refine us; they cause us to grow into maturity through the lessons we learn. Growing through storms builds our faith and gives us spiritual depth. We can take on one of two perspectives during the storm: Why is this happening to me? Or: What is God trying to teach me?

When the storm comes, we should always look to discover God’s will, and ask Him how we can faithfully obey Him through it. Psalm 23:1-4 says, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Even as David walked through the valley, his focus was on God! As a result, he knew he was getting through it! He was comforted and the Lord was his peace.

Let’s take on the attitude of David, friends. Instead of complaining, feeling sorry for ourselves, or focusing on what the devil is doing, stay focused on Jesus. See what He is trying to teach you, and watch as He leads you through the valley. As you take on that attitude, watch as your circumstances change from storms to peace, from confusion to clarity, and from defeat to victory!
