You Know What To Do : Bishop Tony Samuels

Sometimes we go through things in life that can be devastating, and that can knock the spiritual wind out of our lives. This can cause us to get spiritual amnesia and forget the principles of God. Sometimes, we even forget about God Himself. It’s in these moments that we must come to our spiritual senses…because deep down, we know what to do. Life happens; we can’t get around that. The bigger question is: how are we going to respond to life when things happen? Our response will actually control the outcome of every situation.

In the Book of Exodus, the children of Israel found themselves in a difficult spot. They were facing the Red Sea, and at the same time being pursued by an Egyptian army. They were in between a rock and a hard place. Look at God’s response after they cried out to Him in Exodus 14:15-16: And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.” Notice, God responded with a question, “Why are you crying to me?” This almost seems insensitive, but it was not; it was the word they needed. God didn’t want them to stop because of what they were facing; He wanted them to keep advancing!

The children of Israel didn’t realize they had everything they needed to overcome the situation. God had to remind Moses about the rod in his hand. The thing the Lord was using in his life was the same thing Moses was supposed to use in the situation they were facing. If it delivered you once, it will deliver you again. God was basically saying, “Why are you crying? You know what to do!” Do the very thing you have been doing! If praising God got you out once, it will get you out again. If speaking the Word produced freedom once, then speak the Word again. If life got better when you started coming to church, well…keep coming to church! You know what to do!

Hebrews 1:1 warns us, This is why it is so crucial that we be all the more engaged and attentive to the truths that we have heard so that we do not drift off course. When you have been exposed to Truth, you must understand that Truth never changes. The challenge is to remember those truths in the time of need…because it’s the Truth that will make us free.

So, my brothers and sisters, do not be dismayed by life. Remember the Lord, and use your spiritual weapons.
