The Truth That Produces Freedom : Pastor Tony Samuels

One of the first things the Lord began to expose me to as a new Christian was truth. This was so important, because even though I was saved, I was still bound by many lies about life and about myself. It is possible to be a child of the Light but still be living in darkness. Psalms 119:130 (KJV) says, The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. Jesus broke the bonds of the enemy off of my life, but then He began to bring the Light of His Word into my soul to show me who I was truly made to be and the truth about life. How you handle truth will determine how you live your life. God’s truth does not need outside support to validate or confirm it.

Hosea 4:6 says, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… The Bible also says the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The enemy uses our lack of knowledge to destroy our lives. If he can get us to believe a lie, this gives him entrance into our lives to bring destruction. But when we have the truth, we can reject the lie; now he has no power over our lives. Drugs have no power over my life because I do not believe I am a drug addict; I have rejected that lie and have accepted the truth of what God says about me. So as a byproduct, the enemy has no power in that area of my life. I am free!

It’s not just a matter of knowing truth; you have to accept it as your truth. It has to become your personal constitution. Look at what Jesus said about the power of truth in John 8:32 (KJV): And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. That word know means: to be intimately acquainted with. It has to become your truth; it has to become personal.

The battle for freedom is the battle for truth. The enemy does not want us to live in freedom, so he is after the truth. The Bible is clear about where this battle takes place in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (AMP):  For though we walk in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man. The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ. This battle is about the true knowledge of God. The enemy is trying to build strongholds of thoughts that keep us captive and away from the knowledge of God.

A demonic spirit needs a wrong thought pattern to operate in your mind, to give him a legal right to operate in your life. The enemy has no legal right to operate in your life. The only way he enters in is when you believe a lie, and give him power over your life. 2 Timothy 2:25-26 (AMP) explains this: He must correct those who are in opposition with courtesy and gentleness in the hope that God may grant that they will repent and be led to the knowledge of the truth [accurately understanding and welcoming it], and that they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. You see, the lie brings us into captivity; the truth brings us to the place of freedom.

It’s like this: either Jesus set me free, or He didn’t. There is no in between. John 8:36 (KJV) says, Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. If the enemy can get you to question your freedom, he gets you stuck at the Red Sea; but the day you accept your freedom and make a decision to make it your reality, the Red Sea parts and you start moving into true freedom.

So give us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and freedom will be our portion! Be blessed!
