Receiving God's Best Through Sonship : Pastor Tony Samuels

As we continue to walk in a brand-new year, and as we offer Him nothing but our best, let us continue to expect God’s best in our lives. One of the most awesome revelations of our position in Christ is the revelation of our sonship. Through our sonship, the Lord is able to bring us His best. In Mathew 7:11 (KJV), Jesus says this to the people: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? This is amazing, because He presents God as a Father… and not only a Father, but a good Father who gives good gifts to His children.

For some of us, the word father can either bring good memories or bad memories, depending on our relationship with our earthly fathers. But our Father in heaven is like no other. Look at how the Bible describes Him in James 1:17 (AMP):  Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]. The Bible describes our Father as the source of good and perfect things, and then explains His character, that He never changes. This has to be one of the greatest challenges in any relationship: will this person, who says they love me, change one day from that position? I am sure we all have plenty of examples of people changing up on us. They’re for us one day, then completely turn on us the next. Your Heavenly Father is not like that; He never changes. He is the only One who can truly say, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” It’s unconditional love, but it’s even deeper than that; it’s covenant love. Basically, we are married to Him, and He will never file for a divorce, no matter how bad or ugly things get.

You must understand your position of sonship. Ephesians 1:5 (KJV) says, Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will… His plan from the beginning was to adopt us into His family. Why is this revelation of sonship so important to you receiving God’s best? Because only a son can receive a Father’s inheritance. Proverbs 19:14 (KJV) says, House and riches are the inheritance from fathers, but a wise, understanding, and prudent wife is from the Lord. It’s not being a church member; it’s not being a servant; it’s through sonship that the Lord is going to channel His best into our lives.

We then have to grow into this position. Look at Galatians 4:1-2 (AMP): Now what I mean when I talk about children and their guardians is this: as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave even though he is the [future owner and] master of all [the estate]; but he is under [the authority of] guardians and household administrators or managers until the date set by his father when he is of legal age. Sonship with maturity qualifies us for our inheritance. Notice, it said the son is under the authority of guardians until the date set by His father. This is the challenge, to remain in submission to the Father until the set date. I have seen many miss their date, and even though they are sons, they are not receiving God’s best for their lives. Sonship requires complete submission to God’s plan for your life, because it’s only the Lord who can lead you into your inheritance.

Look at Romans 8:14-17 (KJV): For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ. So my brothers and sisters, let’s walk in our sonship, being led by God’s Spirit. We are guaranteed to receive Gods best. Blessings to you and your family in 2023! Nothing but the BEST!!!
