Reality Check : Pastor Tony Samuels
Once your life was full of sin’s darkness, but now you have the very light of our Lord shining through you because of your union with him. Your mission is to live as children flooded with his revelation-light!
Ephesians 5:8 (TPT)
It’s important as a Kingdom citizen to walk in the right reality while living here on planet earth. Reality means: the world or the state of things as they actually exist. You must understand that reality, right or wrong, is based on two things: truth and a lie. Truth is a reality, but a lie can also become someone’s reality. The strategy of the enemy is to pull us out of truth into his lies. What’s at stake? Our freedom. There is no freedom outside of truth. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32 NKJV). So how do I make sure that I am walking in the right reality? You must know what God says about every facet of life.
The Word of God must become our final authority, and become the judge of everything we see, hear, and think. Psalms 105:19 (KJV) says, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. God’s Word is a light. When there is light, you can see clearly; you don’t stumble; your direction is sure, and your footing is solid.
The enemy has no problem with you knowing truth, as long as you don’t consistently live in it. If he can get you to hesitate back and forth between truth and his lies, he stops your progress. I call it living in an alternate reality. The Bible addresses this condition in James 1:7-8 (AMPC): [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides]. Two minds equals two realities.
Paul tells us how to walk in the right reality in Ephesians 4:17-18 (TPT): So with the wisdom given to me from the Lord I say: You should not live like the unbelievers around you who walk in their empty delusions. Their corrupted logic has been clouded because their hearts are so far from God—their blinded understanding and deep-seated moral darkness keeps them from the true knowledge of God. What is Paul saying? He is saying that you can be a Christian and still think and live like the unsaved world around you. Because of the reality they walk in, they are alienated from the life of God. They don’t know the truth… but we know the truth.
Truth is even greater than a reality. Truth is a person, and that person is Jesus. When you come into contact with Jesus, you are coming into contact with the literal truth, and the source of all truth. That’s why we have to make sure we live our lives in a continual state of being connected to Jesus; because if you are connected to Jesus, you are connected to truth… and thus, the right reality.
1 John 5:19-21 (AMP) says, We know [for a fact] that we are of God, and the whole world [around us] lies in the power of the evil one [opposing God and His precepts]. And we [have seen and] know [by personal experience] that the Son of God has [actually] come [to this world], and has given us understanding and insight so that we may [progressively and personally] know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children (believers, dear ones), guard yourselves from idols — [false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart]. So examine your life, and ask yourself: what reality am I living in? Then make the necessary adjustments. This is for you, for your family, and for the world around you!
I leave you with this: Romans 8:19 (AMP): For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].
