His Identity, Your Identity : Pastor Tony Samuels
One of the greatest miracles of all time is the miracle of the new creation in Christ. It is the miracle where the Lord takes a created being and recreates them into someone brand new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMP) Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
Sometimes we don’t fully grasp the reality of this miracle. So much happens when a man or woman is born again. They become a creature that has never before existed. Ephesians 2:5-6 (AMP) says, Even when we were [spiritually] dead and separated from Him because of our sins, He made us [spiritually] alive together with Christ (for by His grace—His undeserved favor and mercy—you have been saved from God’s judgment). And He raised us up together with Him [when we believed], and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, [because we are] in Christ Jesus. Amazing! We were separated from Him, and in an instant, we become joined to Him. We go from being a dead man walking to being transformed into a person who carries the very life of Christ on the inside.
Even after all of that, He changes our position, and He puts us in a heavenly place right next to Jesus. You must understand, the new birth is the restoration of what God wanted in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 1:26 (KJV) says, And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. What God did in Genesis, He He does again through Jesus Christ, for those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Ephesians 2:10 (AMP) explains: For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. Hallelujah! You are God’s masterpiece! You were created to live with Him and have His life imitating from the inside. Then we walk through life manifesting His goodness wherever we go. The more you begin to understand who you are in Christ, your life will begin to rise into another dimension. The enemy knows this and wants to stop us from walking in this new reality.
Look at one of his methods in 2 Corinthians 4:4 (AMPC). It says, For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God. Of course, Paul here is talking about what he does to unbelievers, but it can also happen to believers who don’t have the knowledge of the truth. He prevents them from seeing their new identity, and instead of walking in the new, they continue to walk in the old; instead of walking in victory, they walk as victims because they don’t know. Paul deals with this in 1 Corinthians 15:34 (AMP): Be sober-minded [be sensible, wake up from your spiritual stupor] as you ought, and stop sinning; for some [of you] have no knowledge of God [you are disgracefully ignorant of Him, and ignore His truths]. I say this to your shame. These people were recreated but were walking in spiritual ignorance therefore instead of walking in the nature of God they were living in their lower nature which always leads to sin.
Ignorance is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons. This is why discipleship and renewing the mind must be a priority for every Christian; because if not, it negates everything the Lord has done in that person’s life. It’s like having a package with your name on it, but you never claim it; but it has the ability to take you from the gutter and put you in the palace. Jesus wants us to walk in His identity. I know this is mind-blowing, but it is the truth. 1 John 4:17 (KJV) sums it up: Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. Don’t see yourself in the old light; see yourself in the Light of what Jesus did, because His identity is now your identity.
